Trusted Historic Wood Window Restoration Specialists in Chatham, MA

Greater Boston's extraordinary concentration of historic homes means that tens of thousands of original wood windows continue to serve their original function throughout the city's older residential areas — original units that often outperform their modern replacements in quality and craftsmanship and that carry irreplaceable aesthetic and historical value that no replacement product can match.

The team at Renuvex has spent 18 years of expert preservation and restoration work to private homeowners, preservation groups, and historic property owners throughout Greater Boston and the New England region. The work performed on every window covers all elements of the window: stripping paint buildup to bare wood — repairing or replacing rotted wood sections — re-glazing panes with fresh glazing compound — rebuilding the traditional rope-and-weight counterbalance mechanism — restoring joint integrity in the sash and frame — and painting with materials appropriate to historic standards.

The finished window is an original window fully restored to function, performance, and historic appearance. Interior storm window solutions cut air infiltration and heat loss significantly while making no change to the exterior appearance — an approach approved by the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Historic Preservation. For property owners in Chatham, MA where preservation approvals are required — this approach is frequently the only preservation-compliant way to improve thermal performance.

Clients in historic Chatham, MA neighborhoods with original windows they want to preserve not only maintain the historic character of their homes — they also escape the elimination of original details that cannot be replicated that comes with replacement. Renuvex founder Margaret Callahan holds a certificate in historic window restoration from a nationally recognized preservation organization who completed formal preservation and joinery training.

She handles all project assessments personally and personally supervises all work on designated historic and landmark properties. The team's dedication to preserving original windows has established the company as the go-to firm for homeowners and organizations throughout Greater Boston.
